The Tiny House Trend

There is a new trend in the design world...the tiny house. Some people use the concept of a tiny house as a way to capture some extra space on their lot away from their home. Some people, like Tumbleweed Houses get a little crazy with the tiny house and build it on a trailer frame so that is becomes a road worthy home away from home. And some people are even more extreme and make these ity bity spaces their primary home!

My obsession with the tiny house started when a coworker sent me an article about a Sandra Foster who turned a miniature "haunted house" sitting on the back of her property into a beautiful Victorian cottage. She made the house into a personal studio/retreat...my ultimate dream!!! And now that is all I think about; how to build a tiny house in my (tiny) backyard. Something tells me that my HOA (home owner's association) would never approve putting a pretty tall, tiny house in my yard so for now I just dream about it and all of the possibilities, styles, and designs I could incorporate into my very own tiny house.

Seeing Double

I have always had a desire to design a guest room, child's room, any room really...that I could put two twin beds in. Normally I'm not real big on symmetry but there is just something about two identical beds side by side with a night stand in between that I just can't resist. As I don't have a guest room large enough, and don't have any children (yet), it looks like there is only one room left - The Master!!!

What?!?!? If it was good enough for couples like Ricky and Lucy (I Love Lucy) and Samantha and Darren (Bewitched) then what complaints could my husband have right? (Yes I know those are fictional characters from the 50's) Okay, I'm not serious. I would never put twin beds in the master bed room...So for now I will just have to be patient and wait for a day when I have a guest room big enough to create my dream. Until then take a look at these amazing spaces with double the design pleasure - double the design fun.

I'm a little bit modern office...and I'm a little bit french chateau

Have I told you I am an interior designer? Yup, I work at a commercial architecture and design firm creating super modern, sleek, and techy corporate headquarters for some of Silicon Valley's giants like this...

When I am not at work (and sometimes while I am at work) my design passion switches to residential architecture and I day dream about "the perfect house". I could get lost in a good set of floor plans, elevations and details for hours. In the hopes that my talents will one day pay off big and I will be rolling in money, I have started to design my ultimate dream home. I won't show you what I have just yet but I will show you some great eye candy that is currently inspiring my plans.

and now for the oh so important interior...I love referencing these floor plans from Gordon's Castle LLC

So that's the dream...let's just hope that one day I can make it a reality!!!

Table Eleven

It is summer and it is hot out! So when I dream of parties (as I often do) I dream of an Evening Soiree. I call this daydream "Table Eleven". Imagine an evening with your closest friends gathered under a starry night sky. Soft paper lanterns and paper pom-poms of navy, steel and grey hang overhead. Champagne chills in tall glass flutes that seem to hover over round tables draped in white with a cool blue glow underneath. And as you sit at table eleven admiring the beauty of "E" in hand calligraphy, and take a bite of blueberry bavarian dessert you know, summer doesn't get any better than this!

Today's Daydream...

This daydream is brought to you by Dustin O'Halloran's "Opus 23" and Richard James' "Aphex Twin - Avril 14th"...both on the Marie Annoinette soundtrack...both beckoning me outside to lay among the flowers.
